“Mariko” is a homage to womanly beauty and grace. A beautiful woman in a kimono is featured on the barrel, while her facial features appear enlarged on the cap. She is accompanied by three folding fans, called sensu in Japan. Stylized Japanese kanji complete the motif.
The design is painted on Mikado: a large, cigar-shaped pen body. Every detail is expertly hand-painted with urushi lacquer and gold maki-e.
